Bernardes Architects’ Vision Comes to Life with Accoya Wood
Situated on Rio de Janeiro’s iconic Atlântica Avenue, a new residential building has emerged as a standout landmark on Copacabana Beach. Designed by Bernardes Arquitetura, this striking apartment complex features a unique façade that sets it apart from other buildings in the area. The choice of material for this standout design was Accoya wood, renowned for its exceptional durability and resilience against harsh weather conditions.
Accoya Cladding: A Perfect Match for Coastal Conditions
The project utilized approximately 10 m³ of Accoya wood across its 13 floors, including the ground level. Bernardes Arquitetura selected Accoya wood cladding for its superior performance in coastal environments, where it stands up to the rigors of moisture, salt, and intense sun exposure. Local distributor CORE provided the Accoya wood, ensuring the high standards required for this prestigious development.
A Unique Addition to Copacabana Beach
The apartment building occupies the last remaining open space directly facing Copacabana Beach, making its design and material choice even more significant. The use of Accoya wood cladding has made it the only building in the area to feature a wooden façade, distinguishing it from its surroundings. To achieve their design vision, Bernardes Architects opted for a reddish stain by Montana, a local Brazilian brand, which beautifully enhances the wood’s natural appeal.
A Stunning Result
The decision to use Accoya cladding has resulted in a visually striking and durable façade that not only complements the stunning coastal location but also highlights the building’s unique character. The combination of Accoya’s performance and the aesthetic touch of Montana’s stain has resulted in an outstanding addition to the Copacabana skyline.
